BIOGRAPHY
Dennie Briggs, born in Minnesota, in 1927, graduated from Western Illinois State University High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree, in Education, from that university in 1949. In 1952, he received a Master of Arts degree in social and clinical psychology from the University of Southern California, with further studies at Harvard, Yale, and Stanford Universities, and the University of Groningen, in the Netherlands. From 1945 to 1946, he served in the US Navy and again from 1950-1958. Dennie has taught at numerous community colleges, at San Francisco State University, the University of California, Governors State University of Illinois, the North London Polytechnic, and the University of London. From 1968 to 1974, he resided in the UK, working with Maxwell Jones at Dingleton Hospital in Scotland and later at Henderson Hospital while consulting for the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders in London. He served as a consultant and Writer-in-Residence for the drug therapeutic communities at Centro di soliderietá, Rome (1984-1989). In addition to his seven books, he has written more than 150 articles in journals and the media. He currently lives in the San Francisco area, and is a Moderator and an active member of the Therapeutic Community Open Forum.
